2nd Annual Lifelong Learning Industry Engagement day (ALLIED)

On 14 December 2022, L3C organized its 2nd Annual Lifelong Learning Industry Engagement day (ALLIED) of 2022 at the Damai Ballroom, Aman Hills Hotel.

Present as the guest of honour and delivered an opening remark was Yang Mulia Dr. Chin Wei Keh, Acting Permanent Secretary (Higher Education), Ministry of Education.

The event was attended by over 100 participants from both government agencies and private companies with this year’s theme “Strengthening Lifelong Learning and Industry Cooperation: Now and Beyond”. ALLIED aims to bring together key stakeholders from the public and private sectors involved in accelerating and strengthening the human resource development and manpower in Brunei Darussalam.

The event began with a keynote presentation titled ‘A University-Industry Lifelong Learning Partnership Model’ by the keynote speaker Yang Mulia Professor Séamus Ó Tuama, Director of Centre for Adult Continuing Education (ACE) and Chair of ASEM LLL Hub.

The event continued with Presentations on “Manpower Demand & Potential Trainings” and a panel discussion on the topic “In-Demand Skills & Training Programmes for Industries: Now & Beyond” moderated by the Acting Director of L3C. The discussion involved seven (7) panelists namely Yang Mulia Dr. Hajah Siti Haziah binti Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Head of Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) Secretariat; Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Rosita binti Haji Hassan, In-Country Value Manager, Brunei Shell Petroleum as MISC-WG (Energy) Lead; Yang Mulia Norshahrul Nizam bin Othman, Assistant Chief Executive, Industry Development Group, Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) as the MISC-WG ICT Secretariat ; Yang Mulia Awang Haji Yahya Amin Edwards @ Paul Edwards, Member of MISC-WG (Hospitality & Tourism) and the Brunei Association of Hotels; Yang Mulia Dr Hj Supry bin Hj Ag. Ladi, Director cum Facilitator of Best Integrated Engineer Solutions Supplies Sdn Bhd as the representative of MISC-WG (Construction); Yang Mulia Awang Hadi Wahab, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of GoMamam; and Yang Mulia Professor Séamus Ó Tuama, Director of Centre for Adult Continuing Education (ACE) and Chair of ASEM LLL Hub.

The event concluded with a closing remark delivered by Yang Mulia Awang Muhammad Burhanuddin bin Haji Nazamsah, Special Duties Officer Grade II as the Chief Rapporteur for 2nd ALLIED 2022.

Among the main objectives of ALLIED are to strengthen the lifelong learning cooperation amongst the stakeholders in promoting lifelong learning opportunities and developing programmes; conduct a dialogue amongst stakeholders on demands of training programmes now and beyond; and discuss issues and challenges related to manpower planning and participation of adults in education and training.
